❓ HOMEGROWN BEEF FAQ
Every animal is different, but a half cow typically provides approximately 210–260 lbs of take-home beef.
Your final amount depends on the animal itself and the processing selections you make.
Hanging weight is the weight of the carcass before it is broken down into individual cuts.
Your HCC beef price is based on your share of the hanging weight, not the final number of pounds that go into your freezer.
During processing, bone, excess fat and other portions are removed.
Your cut selections also affect your final take-home weight.
Yes!
You'll complete a custom cut sheet before processing.
And if you've never filled one out before, we'll help you through it.
Our cattle are professionally processed at Sudlersville Meat Locker in Sudlersville, Maryland.
A half cow is a substantial amount of beef, so you'll want dedicated freezer space available before pickup.
We'll help you understand what to expect ahead of time so you can be prepared.

And this is one of our favorite parts of the HCC beef experience.
Customers who reserve HCC beef are invited to the farm for a private beef-customer tour before butcher day.
You'll have the opportunity to get up close with the cattle, see where they're raised, learn about their care, ask questions and experience the farm behind your food.
